Abstract

The paper reviews the agricultural history in Syria during the period of early, middle and latter of 20th century. The paper also discusses the shifting trends in the field of agriculture in Syria and future perspectives regarding this.

Trends of agriculture practices in Syria were shifted toward the use of fertilizers, new seeds and farming techniques in the beginning of 1950. These practices enhanced the production of cotton, fruits and vegetable as well. As a result, about 40 percent of Gross Domestic Product was provided through country’s agriculture in 1953. But owing to the rainfall changes adversely affected the crops that in turn profoundly affected the country’s economy, its food, transport, food processing. Additionally, significant agricultural regions and their development badly effected as a result of decline in the growth of transformation.
